The seminar follows Six Seconds' Know Yourself, Choose Yourself, Give Yourself model for learning to develop and apply emotional intelligence (the same model as the SEI assessment). This course does not attempt to provide a complete scientific and theoretical foundation of emotional intelligence, though it does refer to the current science of emotional intelligence. We will provide recommended reading prior to the program.

Rather than a "script" of how to teach EQ, this course equips you to develop and deliver your own program. The Certified Associate web site provides several "ready made" modules to get you started -- but our philosophy is that cookie cutters don't create the kind of transformational learning needed to bring emotional intelligence into practice.

Anabel Jensen, Ph.D.: President of Six Seconds and professor of education, Anabel is a master teacher and a pioneer in emotional intelligence education. A two-time Federal Blue Ribbon winner for excellence in education, she was Executive Director of the Nueva School from 1983 to 1997 where she helped develop the Self-Science curriculum featured in Daniel Goleman's 1995 bestselling book, Emotional Intelligence.

Anabel is an inspiring and caring speaker who helps people find the best in themselves and each other. Anabel says people pay attention to less than 30% of what you say, but 70% of what you do, so she models the lessons she teaches -- even her graduate psychology courses at Notre Dame de Namur University are experiential, learned-centered, and emotionally engaging.

Dr. Jensen has co-authored four books on teaching EQ, written numerous articles, and trained over 10,000 educators and leaders around the globe. She has appeared in Priorities Magazine, Catalist Magazine, the Roeper Review, and on Discovery Channel; her speaking credits include keynote at national conferences in the US and abroad. Anabel received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1976. Her major was reading and language acquisition; her minors were psychology and statistics.


Joshua Freedman: Joshua is a leading authority on developing emotional intelligence to increase organizational performance. In his most recent EQ initiative, Joshua helped the Sheraton Studio City improve market share by 24%, drop turnover by 19%, and increase guest satisfaction by 8%. He has trained individuals and teams from American Express, Morgan Stanley, the US Army, Navy, and Coast Guard, Xerox PARC, and Pfizer.

Joshua champions emotional intelligence development around the world; he is Director of Programs for Six Seconds EQ Network, Chair of the international NexusEQ Conferences, and Director of Six Seconds' Institute for Organizational Performance. Joshua coauthored the LCA Climate Assessment, the Handle With Care EQ Activity Book, the EQ Learning Journal, numerous training modules including Sneetch Marbles, Inc., and two volumes of the Self-Science EQ Curriculum. He writes on practical applications of emotional intelligence and inspiring articles on personal and professional development.
